A real-life Teach-In on June 24...and what you need to know about Trump's EEOC
Join me and an amazing panel of experts for a Teach-In on Defending Freedom at Politics & Prose or via livestream
When I launched this Substack last month, I shared with you that the name was inspired by the recent opportunity I had to moderate a Teach-In at Politics & Prose Bookstore in Washington D.C. about civil rights, civil liberties, and the rule of law.
The conversation, which you can watch online here, covered a wide range of topics, including separation of powers, the First Amendment, the role of the federal courts, and what we can all learn from civil rights movements of the past. Yet despite a robust 90 minute conversation with some of the nation’s leading experts, I still left feeling like there was so much more to say about the legal issues facing our country right now.
That’s why I am excited to announce that I’ll also be moderating the next event in Politics & Prose’s Teach-In series on June 24: a Teach-In on Defending Freedom, with podcaster and journalist Kara Swisher, Georgetown Law School Dean William Treanor, and former U.S. Solicitor General Don Verrilli. This event will examine recent attacks on the freedoms of universities, law firms, and media organizations, as well as the importance of free expression as a pillar of American democracy and its protection under the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. I hope you’ll join us, either in-person at the free event at Politics & Prose on Connecticut Ave or by livestream here.
In the meantime, as promised, I’m also using this newsletter to share some in-depth legal analysis with our paid subscribers about President Trump’s EEOC priorities. If you’re not already a paid subscriber, you can sign up below to read more about what the EEOC’s recent sexual harassment-related lawsuits mean for organizations that might be reconsidering HR and DEI initiatives amidst the changing legal landscape.
